Draft statement of intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
Product 1 - Magazine
I intend to create a magazine which highlights the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise for wellbeing to ultimately relieve stress. Real life examples of this will be seen on the website and contents page of the magazine. My magazine's USP would focus on the content needed to cope with stress. My masthead would be titled 'New Awakening' , which connotes a fresh start to life and a new beginning exercise and healthy eating can bring to you , which will be suitable for an emotionally engaged 16-25 year old mass market audience.
My aim is to make the magazine look simple yet sophisticated with a direct formal mode of address and I will use my designated colour palette to highlight the important subheading and masthead to create a sense of brand identity , hence it will carry and follow a specific pattern for the magazine to maintain this sense of identity. A high image to text ratio will be present to highlight the main image as centre stage , which is a typical code and convention of fitness magazines like 'Men's / Women's Health'. This entices the suitable demographic to buy the magazine as the visual elements appeal to the readers ,together with the colour palette which will connote passion ,energy , confidence and an overall new beginning to the readers.
By analysing lifestyle magazines in my research I have discovered that they often use sell lines which reflect their genre and often use celebrity endorsement as figures to look up to and admire for example 'Glamour' . I intend to reference Mental Health campaigns like Mental Health awareness week to show support and will construct representations of strength and empowerment.
Product 2 - Website
My magazine's website will intend to share the awareness of mental health and the desperate need for a type of stress relief for the ages 16-25 , continuing to use the original house style of the magazine , so this reflects the cross digital convergence. The layout will be similar to the magazine to create a source of brand identity and will create a user friendly platform that is easy to navigate.
To specifically target my demographic I will use multiple technology features and audiovisual elements on the magazine , as well as social media links and hyperlinks for a source of interaction which is clearly used in my 'Gymshark' case study , this refers to Shirky's audience theory as audience behaviour has changed due to the internet and the ability for audiences to create their own content.
I will create consistency with the colour scheme and masthead logo on both online and print sources to express the same viewpoint/ideologies towards my chosen lifestyle magazine. The contents page on the website will contain the similar cover lines on the magazine , this is also a typical convention used in companies like 'GQ Magazine'.
I intend to include adverts which relate to the main topic of health and wellbeing , for example in 'Cosmopolitan'. The website will contain articles from real life participants about their experience coping with stress and I will add frequently asked questions and Q&A's to cover any of the audiences queries or extra help needed on the topic and get people engaged and involved , this is one of my aspects of digital convergence.
