Planning - shots and things I have learnt from the photoshoot

Things I have learnt from the photoshoot

1) The TV mode is the best setting and the camera adjusts the aperture size to correctly expose the image.

2) Always take a lot of photos for the photoshoot . You need to have enough.

3) Try different camera angles , as a different body language and attitude can change the meaning behind the photo.

4) The correct lighting should be used to determine the tone , atmosphere and mood of the photo.

5) Be prepared with your model , props , costumes , etc.

6) Shoot landscape and portrait shots.

Planning: moodboard and pitch

Pitch
How will I meet the brief?   My product should meet the brief as it covers the main topic of real life stories . Examples of real life stories would be present on my contents page and on the website.  As seen in the mood board, I will definitely apply the typical codes and conventions of magazines that bring success to the industry. Cover lines would be minimal, effective and straightforward and the masthead would be large to entice the audience with bright saturated colours using an appropriate colour palette and typography to successfully do so. This lifestyle magazine must be aimed at an emotionally engaged primary audience of 16-25 year olds , so this magazine would target this specific demographic regarding coverage they would be interested in , such as healthy eating and exercise , pertaining to the topic of lifestyle.

What is my idea and how will the audience will engage with it? As the audience have to be 'emotionally engaged' in the magazine, it must involve their interests , anxieties , happiness and overall feelings to get themselves involved in reading the magazine. My main idea is that the magazine will focus on different methods in relieving stress and anxiety possibly due to the Coronavirus or other educational stresses at it does fit the demographic. The main topic I want to focus on is health and wellbeing , so the factors I would include is healthy eating and exercising for a stress free mindset. I would include interactional features on my website , for example links to different social media sites for extra information , this would reflect the younger generation developing through technology. For both editions there would be a call to action for the audience to express their opinions about the topic and to possibly help others through their own experience. I believe a few pull quotes from experts opinions would be needed to express a formal register and overall accurate , informative approach to the topic.

How will digital convergence be used? The magazines would include the advertisement of the newly released website (call to action). The website will include an audio-visual content regarding the topic of lifestyle for the audience  . The same branding would be used on both products for an easily recognisable brand identity , using the same conventions on print and online.

Draft statement of intent

  Draft statement of intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

Product 1 - Magazine

I intend to create a magazine which highlights the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise for wellbeing to ultimately relieve stress. Real life examples of this will be seen on the website and contents page of the magazine. My magazine's USP would focus on the content needed to cope with stress. My masthead would be titled 'New Awakening' , which connotes a fresh start to life and a new beginning exercise and healthy eating can bring to you , which will be suitable for an emotionally engaged 16-25 year old mass market audience.
My aim is to make the magazine look simple yet sophisticated with a direct formal mode of address and I will use my designated colour palette to highlight the important subheading and masthead to create a sense of brand identity , hence it will carry and follow a specific pattern for the magazine to maintain this sense of identity. A high image to text ratio will be present to highlight the main image as centre stage , which is a typical code and convention of fitness magazines like 'Men's / Women's Health'. This entices the suitable demographic to buy the magazine as the visual elements appeal to the readers ,together with the colour palette which will connote passion ,energy , confidence and an overall new beginning to the readers.
By analysing lifestyle magazines in my research I have discovered that they often use sell lines which reflect their genre and often use celebrity endorsement as figures to look up to and admire for example 'Glamour' . I intend to reference Mental Health campaigns like Mental Health awareness week to show support and will construct representations of strength and empowerment.

Product 2 - Website

My magazine's website will intend to share the awareness of mental health and the desperate need for a type of stress relief for the ages 16-25 , continuing to use the original house style of the magazine , so this reflects the cross digital convergence. The layout will be similar to the magazine to create a source of brand identity and will create a user friendly platform that is easy to navigate.
To specifically target my demographic I will use multiple technology features and audiovisual elements on the magazine , as well as social media links and hyperlinks for a source of interaction which is clearly used in my 'Gymshark' case study , this refers to Shirky's audience theory as audience behaviour has changed due to the internet and the ability for audiences to create their own content.
I will create consistency with the colour scheme and masthead logo on both online and print sources to express the same viewpoint/ideologies towards my chosen lifestyle magazine. The contents page on the website will contain the similar cover lines on the magazine , this is also a typical convention used in companies like 'GQ Magazine'.
I intend to include adverts which relate to the main topic of health and wellbeing , for example in 'Cosmopolitan'. The website will contain articles from real life participants about their experience coping with stress and I will add frequently asked questions and Q&A's to cover any of the audiences queries or extra help needed on the topic and get people engaged and involved , this is one of my aspects of digital convergence.
